With its natural wetlands and its valuable mudflats, the nature paradise of Saadiyat Island is ideal for ecologically oriented tourism. In harmony with the natural environment, which remains to the greatest extent unspoiled, at the moment 29 hotels, and 6,000 private villas and 38,000 apartments are being developed, which will take the highest ecological requirements into consideration during construction.
The following provides you with an overview of the three largest luxury resorts on Saadiyat Island.
1. Rotana Resort
One of the luxury hotels planned for Saadiyad Island is the Rotana Resort. The five star hotel will be constructed on Saadiyat Beach and is thus one of nine luxury hotels located in this part of the island.
The hotel will also own 809,000 m2 of beach front. The project is being carried out under an agreement between the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) and Nasser Al Nowais, the president of Rotana Hotels.
The Rotana Resort Saadiyat Beach will offer more than 400 to 450 high-priced rooms and its own section of beach. Many different restaurants in the Rotana Resort will provide for the guests‘ well-being. In addition, exclusive facilities are available for conferences and meetings. A luxury spa and a fully-fitted Bodylines Health & Fitness Club also form part of the exclusive facilities provided by the resort.
The concept is aimed primarily at European tourists, who are seeking travel destinations with a fascinating view of the sea. Implementation of the concept is to take place by the end of 2009.
2. Abu Dhabi National Hotel’s Park Hyatt Resort
With the assistance of Hill International, the ADNH is building a Park Hyatt Resort in the northern part of Saadiyat Island. The preparatory, excavation and drainage work at the construction site has already been completed. The entire resort is expected to be completed by mid-2010.
The five-star resort is close to the cultural district and is surrounded by two 18-hole golf courses. In addition, hotel guests will enjoy the 9 km long beach, from where they can watch dolphins and discover turtles during the breeding season.
The Park Hyatt Resort forms a surface area of 75,000 m2. It will accommodate 207 rooms and suites as well as 44 chalets. First-class restaurants, conference rooms, banqueting and relaxation facilities complete the hotel’s offerings.
3. Al Jaber Resort
In cooperation with the most well-known construction and development company in the UAE, Al Jaber PSC, an Al Jaber Resort is planned for Saadiyat Island. For this purpose the company, whose head office is in Abu Dhabi, has acquired an area of 750,000 m2 from the TDIC. As the exclusive resort will be situated in the “Saadiyat Beach“ area, more than 300 metres of the original, sandy beach will stretch out in front of the luxury hotel.
The project is the culmination of developing several new corporate areas of Al Jaber, such as, for example, the ’Between the Bridges’ Resort, which was also a joint collaboration with the TDIC. In constructing the new resort, Al Jaber is primarily placing a high value on respecting and protecting the magnificent environment and on integrating the landscaped gardens and pools with the utmost care. In doing so, the Al Jaber resort is also implementing the ecological concept of Saadiyat Island and, at the same time, is making a positive contribution to ensuring that the island will become an international tourist destination.
