International star-studded “Abu Dhabi Classics“ season


The sounds of Wagner resonate around the Persian Gulf

Between October 2008 and May 2009 a total of 22 concerts will enrich cultural life in Abu Dhabi. The opening gala “Journey of Emotions“ on 24 October 2008 and the “Wagner Gala“ conducted by Christian Thielemann on the following evening were a superb prelude that enthused the large number of guests from all over the world.

 

 International music greats, such as the opera singer Cecilia Bartoli, the conductor Zubin Mehta, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, have followed the call of the German concert manager Till Janczukowicz. As part of the events, the “Abu Dhabi Classics Academy“, in combination with participating artistes, is offering a range of special workshops, exclusive interviews and background information.

 

 Taking the Louvre in Paris as a model, according to Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, a regular concert season with guest performances from Europe and the USA will likewise be staged every year from now on.
