Sheikh Zayed National Museum: The “Soul of the Country“

In honour of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president and founder of the United Arab Emirates, a cultural institution will be created by 2010 on Saadiyat Island in the form of the Sheikh Zayed National Museum. The mastermind behind the design of one of the most important constructions on the island is the British architect office of Foster & Partners, which won the design competition for the project.

Various galleries will provide an insight into the “Soul of the country for future generations“ through diverse areas of special interest, such as cultural heritage, the environment, development and changes in the Emirate and “unity through leadership and education“.

In addition to further cultural institutions, such as the Louvre Museum, the Guggenheim Museum and the Performing Arts Centre, the Cultural District of Saadiyat Island will also house the Sheikh Zayed National Museum.
